This will be funny someday

My husband installed the faucets on the new sinks today and hooked up the plumbing. We reused the old faucets, so he had to put them back together. He knows just enough about plumbing to be dangerous, I guess. He was having trouble with one of the faucets dripping, so he took off the handle to tighten something. Not thinking to turn the water off, he created pressure and the little piece (not sure about the technical names) shot off, hit and broke the light bulb and sprayed water and glass everywhere! I made him smile for the picture promising that we would look back on it and laugh.
The good news is that we seem to have gotten all the glass cleaned up, and the faucet worked perfectly once he got it put back together. I wonder if he's laughing yet?

Doing a granite dance

Our granite counter tops were installed today, and they look soooo good. It makes a huge difference. Here's what the bathroom looks like at this point in the remodel.

We have a pretty long way to go, and I can easily get overwhelmed if I think about it all. In the meantime, three houses in my neighborhood have become under contract. I'm glad to have them off the market, but I am sad that it wasn't mine. That's the whole reason I'm doing the bathroom remodel. I want to make this place irresistible! There are so many beautiful houses in this neighborhood to choose from, and people are selling cheap.

a great idea

I just read a very interesting article about screen savers. I'm one of the people who has a floating photo slide show of my children for a screen saver. I've struggled with the idea of turning my computer off when I'm not using it, but I've never considered just turning off the monitor. I used to be good about turning off my computer at night, but I've gotten very lazy about that. So, here's to putting in a little more effort when it comes to the energy my computer uses. Every little thing makes a difference, right?

Milestones

So many milestones have been happening around here this week. Maybe that's why everyone is kind of out of sorts.

First of all, Tiki got his first two teeth.

Okay, not really. But I do think he's teething. Coocoo got his first tooth at 20 weeks, and Booboo got his at 3 months exactly. Tiki is 16 weeks now.

Booboo has slept through the night for 3 nights (not exactly consecutively, but only one night in the crib) in his big boy bed. Right now, it's just a mattress in the floor. In the picture, you can see his crib beside him. First potty training and now this? My sweet baby is becoming a little boy fast!

No milestones for Coocoo, but we are trying a new book on him. Have a New Kid by Friday by Kevin Leman. So far I love the book. He's responding to it too. Except when I have shameful relapses like yesterday. I'll try to do a full book review once I finish it.

almost there

It's been one of those long, dull days in which I go through the moves with a glaze over my eyes. Mondays are my busy days anyway. 8:45am Aerobics. 10am Coocoo's speech lesson. 11:20am massage one of my weekly clients. I usually get a break when the two youngest take their afternoon nap, but Booboo decided he wouldn't be having a nap today. He played in there an hour, so I guess I did sort of get the break. Although the baby was up during that time. He hasn't had a great nap all day.

Because the 2 1/2 year old didn't get his nap, he's been extra squeal-y. Is that a word?

I hate when I get like this. Coocoo challenged me just now by getting into one of my drawers that he knows he isn't allowed to get into. I opened my mouth to say I would spank him (I don't feel good about saying that), but instead I said I would smack him. Yes, I actually said that. I heard it come out, and I cringed. I'm gonna have to apologize. But instead I'm blogging.

Since he was a baby, he has constantly challenged me. Sometimes I'm up for it. I'm rested and in a good frame of mind and I handle it perfectly. Other times, if I'm tired or low, I react rather than respond. That's when I feel like shit about my mothering.

By the way, my husband just came home. I told him I was blogging about my bad day. He said, "every day is good that you're married to me." He was joking, but he was right. And just like that, I'm starting to feel better. I love that man. Well, that and I love the Pinot Noir I'm drinking!

New Project

Since the housing market is going nowhere, we've decided to start another project. And just like every simple project, it is ballooning on us. I feel like it will make our house much more desirable, though, so it's worth it. Our master bath was all white and pretty standard.

I've painted the cabinets a very dark brown. Think Java.

We are having granite installed next Wed. That's where the price got a little out of hand. It went from something around $56 a square foot to a number I don't want to think about. Anyway, here's the sample.

Of course, I realized today that I will have to have the mirror removed to accommodate for the granite back splash. So we are having that done this week. They will cut the mirror down to two smaller rectangles on site, so we are avoiding putting any materials in the dump. Yay us!

We are having a strip of granite cut for the area between the tub and shower, and my ambition is to tile the shower and we'll install that granite strip ourselves. That means we have to remove the enclosure. And that means, the enclosure probably will not fit back in. We've decided to think about that later. Oh yeah, since we are taking the mirror down, I'm pretty sure I'll have to paint the whole room. Unfortunately, the room has about 15 foot ceilings! hehe. See what I mean about a simple project becoming not-so-simple?

In the end, I hope we're left with a kick ass bathroom and the next buyer through just has to buy our house!

To Pee on the House is Bad

BooBoo's potty training is going smoothly, finally. Once we got through the first week, he decided he couldn't convince me to give up again. Today, he went to the bathroom by himself, and we heard him say, "I pee-pee on da house." CooCoo and I couldn't understand what he meant, so I went to check on him. He was standing in a small puddle of pee in front of the toilet. He said, "I pee-pee on da house, mama." His brother asked, "Is that good or bad?" to which he responded, "bad." I love looking at things from their perspective sometimes.

No Words

Ever go through something really bad and can't find the emotional energy to talk about it? Even if you could find the words, what if you aren't allowed to tell anyone? That's where I've been this week. So, I'm listening to a CD of songs I made for my dad last year. All country, so it's "crying, loving and leaving."
Here's my playlist tonight as I drink my second glass of wine:
Diggin up Bones
Islands in the Stream
The Gambler
I will always love you

Zoo in Hotlanta

Two of my best girlfriends and I took out 7 combined kids to the zoo Friday. The main impression I left with was that it was freakin hot! 96 when I got back in my car. It was fun, though. The two toddler gorillas were so adorable! I think they were every one's favorite. The panda was in a playful mood, and the kids got to see her close up. She was in a glass enclosure, and they were all pressed against the glass to see her. She was walking around, and she walked straight up to my 2 1/2 year old face to face. I think he thought she was going to eat him!

Yesterday, my husband and the two older boys went to dinner and a movie. They went to see Kung Fu Panda, so it was timely that they just had the panda experience. My girlfriends and I (and the baby) went to see Sex and the City. I can't say it was better than the series, but it made me miss it.

Opps, Tiki just woke up from his nap, so I will post about our current project another time.

Change

I saw that Obama won the Democratic nod, and I'm happy for him. Even though I know little about politics, I've read many times that he is a good choice. I can't say that I have any devotion to a party; I tend to vote according to the person's views and history. I live in the south, where I was born, and most everyone I know is Republican. That's why I was so shocked when my dad said yesterday that he felt Obama is the best choice of the people running. It made me want to learn more about him. Still, I don't think I paid attention to the history being made until I saw this post.

Now, I feel so emotional and hopeful. Hopeful for change, yes, but also so proud for our country. It hadn't occured to me that my children will read about this in their history books. I need to save the paper and put it in my most recent baby book. The last time I did that was the morning after 9/11. How I pray that this man will figure out how to correct all the wrong decisions made in the time that span between the two events.
